“It don’t matter to me, they think suspending me one game, I’m losing all this money and this and that. Money ain’t nothing to me for the simple fact I wasn’t born with it. Just as fast as you get money, you can lose money. Money’s not going to change my character, money’s not going to change the person I am”
-Rashee Wallace, after drawing an automatic one-game suspension, after earning his league leading 18th ‘T’ for arguing with the refs.
In an effort to blur the lines between straight basketball players and gay basketball players Nike has come out with a new design for it’s ‘Elite Basketball University’ NCAA uniforms. University of Florida, Ohio State, University of Arizona, and Syracuse University will get them now, other Nike schools in the fall (unless they’re smart enough to call Reebok, Adidas, somebody help!)
The new tight tops are designed to ’show off the players physique’, and the new long, baggy bottoms are designed to well… make the uniforms look like dresses.
And what good is wearing womens clothes if you can’t accessorize?
To go along with the new dresses Nike has a line of accessories. They have their choice of wearing long sleeve or sleeveless compression tops, and for the first time ever in basketball padded compression shorts and leggings. No joke, padded shorts. Is this for the ‘bigger butt’ look or just to prevent the excitement of the players grinding their butt against others in the post.
The next Syracuse uniforms will shorten the name even more, and they will simply proclaim: ‘The Big-O”
Here are some of the classic Syracuse Orangemen uniforms vs. the new ones:

Nike go back to making real basketball gear, like the ‘Air Flight Lights’ circa 1990. You remember, the lightest basketball shoe ever made? I loved those things.
The fact that Isiah Thomas & Matt Millen are even on the list show that it is badly flawed. (Isiah was ONLY 20th out of NBA GM’s)
The only thing I can think of worse that Isiah Thomas being on the list is who they had as #1. Cough… Kevin McHale.
Because he cut his payroll (Billups, Sprewell, Casell, etc) and increased his winning % they picked him as #1. Or, they’re formula picked him as #1. Fans in Minnesota are trying desperately to run him out of town. But Forbes named him #1.
I’m sticking with R.C. Buford:
“…over the last nine seasons – since Duncan joined the team in 1997-98 – the Spurs have posted a regular season record of 501-205 … the team’s –winning percentage of .710 during that span is the best of any team in the four major sports (MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL) … during the Duncan era the Spurs have captured three NBA championships (1999, 2003 and 2005) … the Spurs organization has twice been named the best franchise in professional sports (2003 and 2005) in the annual ESPN The Magazine Ultimate Standings survey (each year the Ultimate Standings ranks every professional team in a formula using analysis of team financial data combined with fan feedback in which over 30,000 fans judge teams by eight factors includinag players, bang for the buck, ownership, and stadium experience)” - From the 2006/2007 Spurs Media Guide
The Spurs franchise has won over 70% of it’s games in it’s history. Thats huge people.
OK I realize I’m a Spurs fan and bias toward the Spurs but having to listen to the Orlando announcers say “Dwight Howard has made Tim Duncan look weak and soft lately” is very annoying! The kid looks great and plays hard but lets not confuse greatness with an up and coming star! Maybe the announcer should wait until after the game to make bold statements like that one.
Lets look at a few stats to start:
Duncan: 3 Championships
Howard: None
Duncan: Career All Star and Career Defensive all team!
Howard: Who?
Their 2006-2007 stats are virtually identical give or take a few percentage points here and there. But lets not anoint this kid just yet! Lets wait a few years and see if he can make his team better.
As for last nights drumming of Orlando by the weak and soft Tim Duncan and the Spurs. If it wasn’t for former Spur Hedo Turkoglu and J. Nelson this game had the potential to be a forfeit!
Duncan F 8-14 0-1 3-4 3 7 10 4 3 3 1 2 19
Howard C 4-8 0-0 1-4 3 6 9 0 4 1 2 1 9
So I’m not sure announcers should really be calling Tim Duncan weak and soft! Being forced to watch bias announcers on NBA League Pass sucks!
