Crowd Chants Refs Suck!
28 05 2007For anyone who watched game 4 of the Jazz vs. Spurs Western Conference Championship game there’s no doubt how the fans feel about the referees, they chanted “Refs Suck” and “Javie Sucks”! I know it’s bias and coming from the fans of the Jazz! But it’s a growing trend around the NBA! A large percentage of the fans are starting to buy into the conspiracy theory, is the NBA the WWE? The league can never truly become the WWE because the players still have to score and there’s no way to fake a made three pointer and the opposing teams is never going to buy into letting the other team win! However it does seem that the NBA is manipulating games. I have to believe that the NBA doesn’t really want to hear the fans chanting that the refs suck on national TV for even the casual fans to hear.
With sites like NBARefsSuck.com rising in popularity the NBA has to have one eye on the unrest of the fans and hopefully a serious attempt to improve not just the game from a marketing stand point but improve the refereeing so that the integrity of the game can return. I believe the change in the rules to favor offensive basketball has truly damaged the game. Then there’s the media who is more than happy to promote offense over defense. This year the media decided that the always considered soft Spurs have been upgraded to the dirtiest team in the league because of one comment by Amare Stoudemire and the media’s rush to create a story just to sell something. Whether it’s true or not is up to the true fans to decide!

Jazz fans didn’t win any friends throwing things on the court.
Yes, the refs suck, don’t blame the Spurs!
The problem with the whole story last night is the ref’s. It’s not like the Jazz played outstanding and the ref’s completely threw the game. But they made crucial mistakes at crucial times. IF your a fan in the stands and you payed a lot of money to see your team win only to be mislead by the officiating of course your going to be frustrated. Hows this for a stat. Steve Javie called a total of 28 calls last night. How many do you think went the way of the spurs? Guess? 24! 24 of his 28 calls were in favor of the spurs. You have got to be shitting me.
I can sure understand being a fan in the stands and wanting to see a great game. But if your only showing up to see your team win then I guess your occassionally going to be frustrated! Trust me I have no love lost for the refs and I have seen Javie screw up more than one game. Note the name of the website, but I don’t believe that javie was the problem in game 4 of the Jazz vs. Spurs game. After fighting their way back into the game the Jazz collapsed like a paper cup in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately when dividing up fouls, it’s not the refs job to call it evenly. It’s the refs job to call it fairly.
If Javie saw 24 fouls against the Jazz and only 4 against the Spurs, I’d say he did a great job.
In reality depending on how the refs were setup in there alignment, especially if Javie was the trailing ref he would call more fouls against the Jazz than the Spurs.
Deron Williams has been a great scorer. Thats how the Spurs have played him. As a point guard he’s done a poor job of getting his team involved. If I was a point guard and two of my starters couldn’t break 5 pts in a game, I’d be embarrassed. John Stockton would be turning over in his grave…
The NBA wants the teams to run & gun, they want 100+ point games. Thats how they called it, Duncan couldn’t buy a call.
Okafur should have fouled out in the first quarter, Millsaps wild flailing of the arms on a block got even Kobe suspended.
Utah Jazz fans acted pathetically - the refereeing may be even more in the Spurs favor in the next game, simply because the NBA isn’t going to risk the players or the refs, in an arena with that kind of pathetic behavior.
Wow, I hadn’t even considered whether the NBA wanted to risk sending the players and refs back into that hostile environment! You may be right about how game 5 will be refereed. I think you got it right before when you said that booing the refs doesn’t win you any favors during a game.
I’m all for critiquing the refs and ripping them to shreds when it’s appropriate. I can even understanding being bias and having passion for your team. But don’t throw anything on the court! Jazz fans should be embarrassed!
